BIODIVERSITY

What  does Biodiversity mean for you?
The variety of life on Earth, its biological diversity is known as biodiversity. The number of species of plants, animals, and microorganisms, the enormous diversity of genes in these species, the different ecosystems on the planet, such as deserts, rain-forests and coral reefs are all part of a biologically diverse Earth. All under threat-extinction by the human race. Biodiversity is everywhere. It occurs both on land and in water, from high altitudes to deep ocean trenches and it includes all organisms, from microscopic bacteria, plants etc.

Biodiversity is the surrounding nature around us. The natural environment with its lush green forest and water body forms the  integral part of biodiversity. We must be aware of saving this biodiversity around us. because if we have a balanced environment around us we too survive with a better life.

Biodiversity is the place where we live. Land water and space. If the biodiversity around us is healthy then we remain healthy. We have to take care of our surroundings so that we can survive in a healthy environment.

The word "Biodiversity" means that there are different kinds of life in the ecosystem, like animals, human beings, plants.

Biodiversity is the variety of forms of life of plants and animals in an ecosystem of our planet. An example of ecosystem is a forest with all plants and animals.

Nature, because of its variety and richness of species of plants and animals that live in it, is one of the most interesting and one of the highest example of biodiversity of our continent. Unfortunately today the expansion of big and industrial cities , intensive agriculture and the various pollutants, have destroyed much of this environment, deleting and endangering a large number of plants and animal species with negative effects on the ecosystem.

Our little winged friends

A bush of brambles is almost a small ecosystem that gives refuge to many species of animals. The tangle of thorny branches  protects them from predators and from the pasture. The flowers and fruits give nourishment to insects, birds and mammals.

Different types of nests

Some insects such as the Hymenoptera , have developed some techniques to protect their eggs. To isolate the eggs of the insect, the plants reacts in forming a gall.

Many butterflies emigrate during the warm seasons from the south to the north. Most of them emigrate in only one direction and after their riproduction cycle, they die, without coming back to their birthplace.

In that picture  the lines show some of the most important flights of the emigratory birds from Africa  and Europe.Down it is a drawing of the Oasis of Alviano with its lake.

Botanic Garden at school
Our biodiversity experience

This is our Botanic Garden and our Biodiversity Experience started in February 2011.We did an experiment organized by Mrs Massimi, Science teacher and Mrs Palazzo, our teacher of English. We brought to school the seeds, the soil, and containers such as plastic cups and small pots.We filled them with the soil and in each cup and pot we planted a few beans, lentils, patatoes. We have laid them on a desk and we have exposed them to the light from the window of our class. Then almost every day , we watered them. Now we are waiting for the month of June to plant the crops in the garden of our school. With this amusing and interesting experiment, we have proved that the fruits come from the seeds and that we need to cure the plants and give them a lot of love in order that they can grow up healthy and strong.
